Look, man, sometimes I just get plain sad. Sometimes I get overwhelmed by a vanilla sadness that is all-encompassing like a cloud. Sometimes I tack my tiny daily disappointments to that sadness for decoration, but most of the time, overall, it is a big, bland, boring sadness. Often times that happens on Sundays.
And so, on days like this Sunday, when you can’t find any words to describe exactly why you’ve got the blues, ink it out instead.
Grab your flowiest pen. Or the scratchiest one. Whichever brings you comfort. Grab a blank canvas, be it paper, your hand, a tabletop, the back of a cardboard box. Begin.
Draw out your thoughts without thinking them. Doodle. Make something pretty. Make something ugly. Just let it flow.
I do this often. When I want to think. When I don’t want to think. When I’m listening, and when I’m not. It just feels really good and sometimes adds a little color to my sadness. The best part is that I typically end up with a clearer mind and a pretty picture.
Happy Sunday!
