I do what I can to make Sundays special. I like Sundays. The mornings are always glorious. The afternoons tend to be sweet. But every Sunday evening around 5:00, I start to get this dread in my stomach as I begin to acknowledge that time is running out.
Apparently this is a thing, and for most people, the dread comes from realizing that the weekend fun is over. For me it’s the work. Not the work I have to show up for tomorrow, but the work I wanted to complete all weekend.
Around this time almost every week, anxiety seizes my soul and I obsess over everything that I didn’t get done. I get sad about the fact that, even if I do have time to do them tomorrow, I wont get to do them in sweatpants.
For tonight, and for future reference, I thought I’d compile a quick list of to do’s for my Sunday sads.
- Three deep breaths. Right here, right now.
- Call someone. Someone’s got a voice that soothes you. You need that person. Call them. Don’t have a lengthy conversation, just chat long enough to feel that sunshine in your belly again.
- Record. Get out your journal. Sunday mornings are always calming and full of love and joy. Relive your morning and solidify your memory in the pages. This always feels good.
- Get busy. You don’t really notice the setting Sunday sun while you’re busy.
- Log out of social media. You will waste time and you will feel like dirt about it if you’re busy scrolling through someone else’s life.
- Prepare your playlist for the week. You have five days of commuting & five days worth of workouts ahead. Make them feel good with the right music.
- Take a bath.
- Light your candles.
- Start looking forward to your favorite thing for next week. Angie’s coming over on Wednesday for our big project. that should be fun.
Now look at me. You, my dear, are going to be fine.

These are great reminders for any day of the week. Thank you for reminding me to take deep breaths and reconnect with myself. #3 + #4 are my favorite, I love to journal and I’ve been logging off of social media more frequently on the weekends.

Hi Siobhan! Yes, journaling always does my mind & spirit well. I’m trying to get into the practice of writing in my journal, even when I don’t want to. Thanks for reading 🙂
