I was 16 when I made my first summer bucket list. I was going to get a hand modeling gig. I was going to build a tire swing (with my beautiful hands?). I was going to attend a foam party. I was going to buy a yellow dress. I did none of those things. In fact, I was grounded before summer solstice, and with the exception of trips to NY, I hardly left my room. I’ve made mental bucket lists every summer since, too afraid to write them down lest the universe deny my requests. And not once have I ever completed a single one.
My favorite season of the year is fast upon us again. Technically summer starts June 20, and if we ride it till the wheels fall off, it won’t end until September 22. This time around I’m writing my summer bucket list. I’m posting my summer bucket list. And I’m doing my summer bucket list.
So here it is, 2016:
SoulCycle – I’ve been trying find more ways to be active outside of the gym and a SoulCycle sesh sounds like just the ticket. Plus the bikes are yellow.
Build a sand castle – This almost absolutely requires going to the beach. Which is why I put it here.
Go Geocahing – Trust me, you want to go Geochaching with me. Or maybe you don’t. Geocaching is kind of like a hike in that you walk a lot outdoors. You use a GPS receiver and other to look for containers called “geocaches.” Once you find the container you log your visit and you have the option of taking one of the “goodies” in the container and leaving your own. It’s like a treasure hunt that gives back.
Skinny Dip – I only recently had the desire to do this. Before then, I’d been so uncomfortable with my blubber that I didn’t even like to be naked by myself, much less with anyone else. Seizing this opportunity to do this while I’m in the mood. Bonus points if we sneak into a pool or something.
Visit a new state – I’ve been to New York, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Illinois, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, West Virginia. New Jersey, Delaware, and of course Virginia. I think I’d like to see some place new. Recommendations?
Take the stage three times – I find that I have fun on the stage, but I don’t go unless there’s a pressing event. So I figure I’ll make this summer a three-month pressing event. Let’s go to Busboys!
With only 94 days this year, I tried to make my summer bucket list exciting, yet attainable. I’m letting these be vague, and leaving lots of room for adventure. What’s on your summer bucket list? Care to join me for any of mine?
